Marathon Man over at Mileage Update goes on a rant about what we have lost recently. Oh is that list depressing or what? Ouch, it hurts!

Looks like Points, Miles & Martinis did a no no and was called out by Seth who writes at the Wandering Aramean (post # 376 last line) and it appears they finally pulled the post (post #378). And now you know why some blogs appear in the TBB Ignore list

This is an awesome video about flying jets. For you aviation geeks out there!

        1. Common knowledge. Brian has been on TV for years where the screen shows “The Points Guy presented by Bankrate”

          1. If it’s common knowledge where is this information on the website? Can you really say with a straight face that a phucking [edited] footnote on TV counts as a disclosure?

Why don’t you indicate that you are a Bankrate “contributor” and “contractor” then?

          2. I have told Jason his comments online on “controversial” posts do not serve any purpose other than to hurt his “brand” of being a writer for these companies.

It was common knowledge that there was a very close association. But ownership? Not so clear for us in this game, errr, big business. Just imagine how “common” knowledge it was for the TPG target market readers!

Brian has done a phenomenal job commercializing/monetizing my hobby. I admire him for that. Would I ever send any people I care about to learn about this hobby to his site? Hell NO! There are others with true expertise who don’t pump their readers 24/7 with the same credit cards. That’s all.

            .

            1. I don’t see what’s so “controversial” about stating a fact. If you guys want to pat yourselves on the back for this amazing discovery, feel free. Just don’t bother to Google The Points Guy and Bankrate and notice various articles over the last two years associating the two. Next you will reveal that Chrysler owns Jeep or something.

My “brand as a writer” is doing just fine.

              1. “controversial” definition: giving rise or likely to give rise to public disagreement.

You are missing the “point”. Association of the two entities was never in question. Ownership was, well, not as fully disclosed. Not a peep about it at the “About” page.

Please, again, don’t insult our intelligence.

Glad to hear your brand is doing just fine.

              2. Again if it’s common knowledge, why don’t you guys plaster it all over the blog? I suspect that all the newbies clicking the links have no idea and are being completely mislead.

Either you are a complete moron or a complete liar. Either way, I feel bad.

          3. A poll on Flyertalk would show that less than 50% knew that.
On facebook it would be much less.
Tv is for entertainment, Brian isn’t funny.

          4. Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia!

Look, you can say it doesn’t matter. Just don’t go around insulting our intelligence saying that it’s “common knowledge.” It’s not.

          5. Jason,

You’ve been with the Bankrate Guy for a long time now and write fairly well. When are you going to get one of those fancy titles? TPG Contributor has no pizzazz. I think your new title should be Chief Pumperizer to Naive Newbies.

          1. Yes around 2Q2012 (April – June)…which is around the time of that trademark transfer.

Appears it had to do with acquisitions that were accounted for during that period.

They do lots of them so hard to tell which ones were allegedly misreported.

  1. I follow Seth cuz he is the one that calls everyone else out, but then I constantly debate unfollowing Seth because he retweets so much of Runway Girl, which I can’t stand for some reason.

  2. WAIT A MINUTE. MARATHON MAN SAYS –

As I have said elsewhere, it is in my opinion and the opinions of many others that many of the bigger blogs who out deals so they can gain income have in fact been a big part of the demise of many of the MS deals we all do. I had provided a list at the Chicago Seminars

DOES ANYONE ELSE SEE THE CRAZY IN THIS? HE COMPLAINS ABOUT THE BLOGS THAT HE ALSO SPEAKS WITH. SO FREAKING STUPID. HE IS PART OF THE PROBLEM.

    1. I told him he should not go, he does not belong there.

I still say paying money to listen to these businessmen harms the hobby. My opinion, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Then I was called out here again for one of the “angrie” crowd because, the mega cc pumpers, are so nice in person.

2 yr anniversary next weekend for me. I am going to do that tab readers have been asking…please be kind. IRS does not like “businesses” with losses three years in a row!

      1. You should Buzz! Do the tab, show ’em how it’s done! Only the best offers for good products, no links for garbage you hope an unsuspecting newbie clicks on by accident. Full disclosure. Mention the tab is there, like once, and don’t pump it. Do it right and I’d click on my next Chase or Amex card from you!

        1. I need to take a closer look at the stuff I have. It appears it is just the lowly creditcards.com where it is ALL canned and pays the lowest. No spiffy direct links for this amateur (me). Which is a good thing (not much pressure to “produce” conversions) and bad thing (I am sure NOT the best offers are embedded in them). I am not supposed to mess with them so I am going to rely on you guys knowing if what you are seeing is the best offer. Or you can always email me and if the offer on a specific card sucks I will tell you!

I can’t do the pumping. I plan to have it there and mention it the same way I do now for my Referral and Amazon links.

Or you can call this “research”, learning stuff from the inside ๐Ÿ™‚

I must admit the lady I am dealing with is pretty cool…

Time for dinner, think we are going Indian, I love curry!

          1. Mangiamo Italian Grill in downtown Saline: Very nice place, great food. I could do a blog post about it but I won’t bore you to details with my “culinary” expertise like some other bloggers lol.

  3. Would passing on a $50 Panera gift card when I’m in MI later this month help the bottom line?

    1. I don’t want to be taking donations but if you insist.

If you guys have stuff you can not use you can pass it to me and I can do a few giveways. Hate it when FTG readers send them lounge passes ๐Ÿ™‚
