I think the Devil’s Advocate at Travel Codex nailed it that Chase Ultimate Rewards is dying…

The details of the new pure revenue based Amtrak Guest Rewards program in 2016 are out. Kiss your cabin awards goodbye. Blame Delta…For a good analysis read MileCards.

Here is a direct link to a 60k Citi Thank You Premier Card, the best offer out there…likely not to last long. (Update: Link is dead. For NEW link, see this post at Running With Miles)  Let me practice how they do it…Oh, yes…LAST CHANCE! Funny how you don’t see the same enthusiasm for cards that do not pay commissions to the pumping bloggers huh? Oh, and do NOT use my link! Until at least this one goes away…Checkout the post at Doctor of Credit.

This company FlightRadar24 was the subject of a story at the Wall Street Journal on Thursday. It claims it tracks all flights in real time and way too many are relying on it. Worth a click!

Inside the IRS Data Breach. Phucking scammers…I am thinking to go off the grid…

Risk: Your Best Friend and Worst Enemy.

Tourist sites that are disappearing. Many usual suspects here…

The historic center and docklands of the maritime city of Liverpool was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004. But the iconic home of The Beatles has been put on the UNESCO List of World Heritage in Danger thanks to an $8.7 billion construction development project that is being proposed in the area.
But Liverpool? Really?

Really digging creepy abandoned amusement parks in China lately.

Five major themes recur in Cerio's work: representation, illusion, vision, expectations, and reality. Here, he questions whether rides, and the parks they reside in, are symbols of happiness, or merely an illusion.

This guy has been shooting photos in New Orleans for ten years since Katrina!

Now closed, the art deco Charity Hospital was a landmark of New Orleans. "People in the community used to call themselves Charity Hospital babies," Spielman says. "That building is one of the casualties of Katrina."
Charity Hospital. Closed.

Gun Violence in America, in 17 Maps and Charts. I don’t understand why we still tolerate this crap. And a funny take on the subject from an Australian comedian!

    1. Oh yeah? What part of that site is actually helpful (versus something you can read for yourself easily on the Amex website)?

        1. @Bluecat is American Express Platinum Fine Hotels and Resorts helpful in booking a Cruise? Thank you in advance for your help.

          1. FH&R is for hotels. Some of those are actual deals. Most are not.

Cruise discounts with Amex Plat were not the best way to go, for the last 3 or 4 of my cruises

    1. Hyatt hotels are the worst. = W. Awful, will never ever stay at any of those.
When I’m on vacation the last thing i want is an average boring business hotel.
Have no idea why it’s pushed so much… wait, f#$%^ bloggers? LOL

  1. Got the CSP/Freedom as my beginner cards. Chase definitely needs to do something, since they are taking a few things away this year. I am starting to branch out into other flexible points. I got off the fence and got the Amex Plat for 100k. Now, with Citi increasing the bonus, I may try them next. Then I’ll have MR, UR and TY flexible points. Just need to figure out how to MS with Amex and I’ll be good. Also, got the Visa Buxx. I love “The Hobby.”:)

  2. Liverpool is fantastic. I was really surprised how cool it was. You don’t even need to be a Beatles fan to enjoy it.

  3. 1. Loved this risk article – used to work in risk management, love the topic.
    2. I don’t get the fascination with abandoned Chinese amusement parks, but to each their own.
    3. Wife and I have apparently maxed out on once per lifetime AMEX Plat bonuses (inc. biz), so I’m ignoring the hype. These things come around frequently.

    1. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Not sure I am digging pics from Chinese abandoned amusement parks lately…I can’t figure out myself sometimes 🙂 If Amex Business cards went one per lifetime as well I would be looking to retire from The Hobby!

  4. How about a chart comparing violent crime with other objects (knives, etc) per million people? You can’t blame the instruments of the act – tantamount to blaming forks for making people fat, pens for misppelling words. Guns are tools. How people use tools is contingent upon the operator.
