In the previous day, we left after breakfast to visit the Icefields Parkway.

It is a 144 mile journey cutting through the Canadian Rockies. Yes it is a spectacularly scenic drive. But we had in mind the Columbia Icefield, the largest icefield in North America. This is a major tourist attraction and there can be long lines. It wasn’t cheap but it was definitely worth it.

IMG_1098

Spent some time waiting around until our ticketed time arrived…

IMG_1099

IMG_1100

We got on these huge trucks that are built for terrain like this. The ride has extreme steep hills to go up and down, it was fun.

IMG_1103

IMG_1104

They let us to goof around for a while, you know, the tourist thing, take pics and stuff like that.

IMG_1259

It was getting late so we decided to hit the gas and save more of these attractions on our return south from the Jasper area. Actually I had booked a Holiday Inn at Hinton on a Pointbreaks rate for two nights which is almost an hour past Jasper! Here are a few pictures from this hotel which was perfectly adequate for this ridiculously low points price!

  1. Hey Buzz-

I hope that you’ll take this as constructuve advice.

I was looking through your trip report-great to see all the smiles. Real peoplle having real fun. But there’s a business side to all this too and I was thinking-what would a Titan have in here?

Then it struck me-Ben always includes a photo pf the fire escape map hanging on the wall in each of his hotel rooms. Now I know what you’re thinking: This trip was a while ago and I don’t have a photo of the Holiday Inn fire route map. No problemo-nobody’s gonna use or really read your photo, so just use a photo of any fire map. If you don’t have one, stop off tomorrow at a place on your way, ask to see a room and shoot the fire escape map there. If they ask you what the hell you’re up to, just say something like ‘You can never be too sure about this stuff’ while you snap shots of the amoke alarm and sprinkler heads. Maybe ask them if they use safety in their adverstising.
