It wasn’t a poor country where everyone is smiling and laughing; it was a poor country where people seemed sad they had no other options.
Where people rushed to act friendly, to “help” you, only so they could ask for money a few minutes later.
Every transaction I had with a Cuban person was strictly for financial purposes. I never managed to have a conversation with someone I wasn’t paying, or who didn’t hope I would pay them. I barely managed to get smiles out of most people.
Of course, I understand why that was the case — and have experienced it in other places, as well — but it just seemed so much more stark in Cuba.
Why buy tickets for condemned inmate’s daughter when you could have used miles instead? Obviously, I am a horrible person injecting humor in this personal tragedy, I go to the corner now, be gentle in the comments.

Went Paragliding for the first time, this morning. I lived. Paid for the good landing, but the takeoff was FREEEEE!
p.s. German toilet training must be very traumatic, I’m just sayin’….
Never gone paragliding, a little too exciting for me.
Prefer gliding in a flat bed up in the air….and sometimes sitting in a Spirit exit row seat, as long as they are for freeeeeee.

I know you posted that Aeroflot Hot F/A picture (link) for Mike………..The few F/A’s (they were ALL hot) we would meet from Aeroflot at layover hotels in Europe all looked like that back in the day. It was amazing what they would do, let me rephrase that, it was amazing how badly they wanted airline logo swag ( TWA China cups, napkins, special stir rods, ect.)……This was during the Cold War, I do not know if they sold it or kept it, but it must of been a lot more valuable then toilet paper was for them back them.
Those broads and the Quantas Crews could drink you under the table every time. God I miss those days.
