I would love to go there one day even though there will never be a Hyatt built on its grounds lol. When we were staying a night on the west coast of Lemnos, we could see a huge mountain behind the setting sun all the way across the Aegean. The next day we found out it was Mount Athos. We said that one day we would have to go there.
Hey, bars don’t open on Sunday mornings around here, not fair!
May be easier to arrange a visit to see the Taliban than to see these guys at Mt. Athos!
Blue laws are the WORST. Flying the old proud bird w/ the golden tail red-eye from HNL to IAH. Get to IAH totally hung over and discombobulated only to be told no booze in the President’s Club until noon. Are you f’g kidding me? What kind of third world shit hole is this place, Texas?
Thankfully a kind bartender at said club (hola Ramon!) whispered that if you go out into the terminal and order food you can get life-giving-precious-spirits at 11am.

Fascinating about airport funding – never knew what a mess it all is or why our airports suck so much. Went through the new Denver airport back in the day, when it was recently opened – pretty cool at the time at least. My home airport (DAY) is nothing special but it’s so small that it doesn’t matter – in and out, no time at all.
I don’t think I would do well as a hermit or a monk as solitude makes me depressed after awhile…although there are days I think I might like to try getting away from people for a bit, so who knows lol! Some people are just drawn or called to that kind of religious life, maybe for reasons only God really knows.
One guy shown in the article has been up there alone for 64 years!
