More devaluations. Club Carlson makes its 2018 hotel category changes. It may not look so bad but Loyalty Traveler tells us that Category 1 hotels take a hit. For the record, the first blog posting these was Loyalty Lobby and then the self proclaimed experts followed as they always do…

  1. Delta award pricing is amusing with sufficient Delta status. Award tickets are almost refundable. ( There’s a minimum time before departure to get everything back but close enough.) So you buy on speculation of a trip. Price falls? Swap. Price rises? How clever was I to buy at the bottom! Yup, this requires a stock of miles but they are easy to get if you specialize in Delta.

  2. In case you missed it somehow every single BA’r wanted you to know you could get 1500 Marriott points with three tweets!

  3. Although I highly respect Ric Garrido and his excellent work, George, take another look at his article and you will find that there are actually a few MORE category 1 hotel properties overall as a result of the Club Carlson category changes for 2018.

The changes are a devaluation to him because they affect the hotel properties which he patronizes or planned to patronize — and there is nothing wrong with his opinion.

This example just shows that at times, one man’s perception of devaluation is another man’s perception of opportunity…

      1. Thank you, Ryan. I appreciate that…

…but in all honesty, I am not really sure why that topic remains so popular. Do people really like Shamrock shakes from McDonald’s that much?!?

    1. Tend to agree. Was working on my article on this and I was struggling to see the downside overall. Unless Ric was planning a trip to Walsall near Birmingham?!

Odd changes – Abu Dhabi up, Dubai down. In Dublin one Radisson goes up, the other drops.

  4. Guys, I am a little busy now that we are back to normal in the stock markets…

What a dumb ass to be taking credit for short term market moves…

As I am getting tax returns coming in to do….the market FINALLY behaves normally and looks like I may be making very selective purchases in the near future…which is great!

And this from the phsychologist dude who won a Nobel prize:

“If owning stocks is a long-term project for you, following their changes constantly is a very, very bad idea. It’s the worst possible thing you can do, because people are so sensitive to short-term losses. If you count your money every day, you’ll be miserable.” Daniel Kahneman
