Some material that blew my mind lately as we are winding down 2016…

9 questions about Russia you were too embarrassed to ask

Well, Russia is in the news a lot lately and if you read this outstanding article in Vox you will be much more educated on the matter. It does not deal with the latest hacking episode. Must read in my opinion, enjoy!

The sickening business of wellness

If there is one thing that gets me is salesmen hawking shit to everyone. So many charlatans everywhere you look ready to sell you all kinds of crap. And this wellness industry is so full of them, wow! Himalayan salt lamp anyone?

Trans-Siberian Railway: a view from Moscow to Vladivostok

Well, since we are on the Russian subject matter, how about a fascinating photo essay aboard the Trans-Siberian Railway for you? Enjoy!

    1. Look, I love TBB, but I get up at 4:30 everyday for work… that’s not sustainable on the weekend!

  1. Oh man, I’m so tempted to send that Wellness article to a few friends and relatives, but I have learned that it’s futile. Same as trying to convince some friends that my churning habits are not only not affecting my credit score but allowing me to have a better one that they have.

Have a happy new year George!

    1. Oh yeah been there so many times…I just ignore them, some will NEVER get it!

About to head to neighbor’s party…Can walk home #winning

U have an awesome one too!

    1. PS I don’t see what is so embarrassing about those Russia questions.

I thought it would be more about travel related stuff, eg. “What are the bathrooms like over there”?

Also, thank you to Oliver and DiffPaul and Buzz for commenting on my quest to have “authentic” experiences and to make connections when travelling. I post later in the day than when most people are here so I always appreciate it.

Very astute comment by Oliver about a hotel being a place you can stay in and poop your guts out should you catch a g.i. bug.

Eh, I’m going to just repost that comment I made here:

Hotel of future — Bingo !!!

Reminds me of stays at Cabo Inn Hotel in Cabo and The Red Tree House in Mexico City. It was like staying with family. I didn’t find that in several BnBs in Europe, despite glowing reviews. Trying to make connections, meeting locals, having an “authentic” experience. Eg. How about a way to meet your counterparts in other countries, or people with similar educational levels, or not?

I’ve realized often the only people I meet are hotel, shop, and restaurant workers, tour guides and taxi drivers.

My impression is that airbnb used to be about meeting and connecting with other people, but it seems just totally commercialized now.

        1. I must admit we loved the Los Cabos Hilton, my kids still rave about it.

          Happy New Year….Behave 🙂
