July 12, 2013: Award Mapper, TSA PreCheck, Cambodia, United scare, wildlife, waves, Jeff Bauman

If you enjoy reading my blog, please take a moment to let your friends and family know so they can enjoy it too, thank you!

TRAVEL

Award Mapper. You want to search for hotels in a destination and want to use hotel points. Use this site and it gives you the hotels and the points required. Brilliant! Bookmarked it and used it already. Not sure how I missed this, I should visit Milepoint more often, check it out! Not a finished product but oh so helpful!

TSA PreCheck Airports and Locations. By Airlines. Great table. Found at Efficient Asian Man.

I always enjoy reading the Airline Biz Blog of the Dallas News. Every Friday Terry Maxon posts “3 idle thoughts” which are always interesting and sometimes very funny. Like this one: “New Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport CEO Sean Donohue worked 24 years at United Airlines, so he should be very familiar with managing in a non-profit organization.” – Lol!

Well, more problems with the Dreamliner. I am not that eager to fly it you know.

MILES/POINTS

Were you NOT targeted for Summer 2013 bonus Hyatt Gold Passport points? Per this post by Loyalty Lobby, you could give them a call and ask to sign up or even choose the bonus you want. ymmv

Everybody on Twitter was freaking out because of a tweet by United about a new Rewards experience coming soon. I even thought about cashing all my miles before they became Skymilized! Later in the day United came out with some exclusive arrangement to earn some miles with Mercedes Benz. I thought about inquiring if I can get some free miles driving my free Benz! Was that it or was CEO Smisek (Delta lover) warming up to some more devaluations?

ON MY MIND

Got the 50k for the Southwest Business card. Burned 20k for a night at the Grand Rapids Hilton for Mrs. TBB to go see our daughter dancing away at a dance camp. Many years ago I stayed in this hotel and I was “Guest of the Day” with sign and all, it was pretty cool.

This guy will surely break legs soon, Wow!

Ok, if you are going to read this, please sit down. Have some Kleenex available because I do not see how you are not going to get emotional. A gripping and heart breaking profile of Jeff Bauman, the Boston Marathon kid whose tragic picture we all will never forget.

BLOG BUZZ

Note: This section is intended for long time readers and miles/points addicts who follow the blogs in this space.  Readers not familiar with this crazy hobby could skip this section!

Bloggers are appearing everywhere! Even in a land like Canada with no huge signup credit card bonuses:-)

Travel Summary posted his five favorite blogs. Nothing surprising. Reading the comments sometimes amazes me how different are the perspectives of others in this hobby! A person commented how Milevalue does not push credit cards, excuse me? Hey AgendaGuy, you should take a look there too. I am not the only MMS lover out there, get off my back, will ya?

And let me leave you with this classic:

  1. A person commented how Milevalue does not push credit cards, excuse me? Hey AgendaGuy, you should take a look there too. ………………………………and stay there.

      1. We can only hope?…………………. Better yet, he got abducted by aliens or Scientologist.

  2. The KTVU apology is pathetic! This incident shows you that talking heads reading the news are empty heads…..Lucky VFTW should take down this 7/12 post. Could you imagine the backlash if this happened to another persuasion?

  3. In a very understated way (there are only 3 comments on the post, including TBB’s!), VFTW seems to have broken some pretty significant news today… I’m off to visit me some convenience stores!!

    1. Well…it is not VFTW. It’s the site he linked to. New site, wanting to increase traffic, posts something that is better for ALL if it was not posted so it can last LONGER…check how the site has the “Credit Cards” page ready “Coming soon”…

Everything done is for the cc links

TBB, telling it like it is and doing it all for the love of it all…what an idiot:-)

      1. Yeah, it’s funny that the blog literally has one post and nothing else on the site.

I guess that’s the easy way to get some quick traffic to a site that otherwise has nothing to offer.

        1. And I guess now the more I think about it… why would Gary be following a site like that? A site that literally has nothing else besides that one single blog entry about VRs.

  4. on Mr. Pickles new “in the news section”:

I dont think anyone will ever love mr. pickles as much as he loves himself.

    guy needs an ego check.

    1. MrPickles has not posted in July yet. He posted twice in June. Lame.

  5. Thanks for getting me to take a look at Award Mapper, a site that I had heard of but never checked out.

That said, I realize it’s still in beta but the 1st award (Marriott ANC)I looked at was wrong. 🙁

The map showed the 2012 rates & not the new rates that were announced & became effective earlier this year

    1. I should have specified that it is still in beta, definitely not a finished product! So much promise…I like how I can get an initial read of all my award options and THEN I can zero in to specific awards. Having to do this at each site individually was killing me!!

Thanks for the plug in Milepoint too!

  6. where is our troll.. he must have finally taken some anti depressant and we aren’t buying his shady practices
