February 15, 2013 – The US Air Best Offer ongoing saga

And then they were just four…

ON MY MIND

It is amazing how so many bloggers have suddenly become aviation analysts!

Wife and daughter are off to Singapore & Malaysia. Flying United from Detroit to Newark, United to Zurich, Singapore Airlines to Singapore on A380, Singapore Airlines to Frankfurt, Lufthansa to Detroit. Daughter from Newark on the phone to me: “The United Flight Attendants are kind of snobby”. I felt proud:-)

Does anyone know of the best car rental site for a ONE way rental within Canada?

I applied for four cards last night. Went 2 for 4 with 2 in process..yep, it’s Barclays and US Bank. Will wait them out…

MILES/POINTS

The buzz of the day is how the non affiliate much superior US Air credit card offer for 40k miles (and no annual fee and 10k miles before the anniversary) just died! Dang it, I was going to go for it but I have just been too busy with everything, including this blog! Naturally, the bloggers are out IN FORCE now pushing the affiliate offer for 40k miles (with annual fee & no 10k anniversary bonus). Couldn’t you wait a day or two to start pushing it, geesh!! So, I say you can go for the non affiliate offers in post #2206 at the top for 35k miles (and no annual fee and 10k anniversary bonus). Let’s see if any blogger will conveniently forget to mention these links as they are not the “best”. You get 5k less at first purchase but you do not have to pay the annual fee and you still get 10k miles at anniversary. You be the judge. And let the bloggers know who never mention these offers OR never ever bother with anything but the affiliate offers and then they rushed out yesterday to inform you the “other” offer died and then served their own link! Watch what they blog, you deserve the full scoop! You ‘re welcome. The links on the top of the page linked above are still better imho and hey look, no Chairman language to scare people off;-)

UPDATE: View from the Wing has a good follow up post laying out all the options out, including a new 40k offer one! Let the readers decide by giving them all the different options…I agree!

  1. I want to know how your family survives the weather in SIN and KUL. I’m seriously hesitant to book a trip there because of the combined heat/humidity. I’m scared.

  2. Thanks for the non affiliate link. Really hope some of the bloggers put it out there as an option. The ones that do will definitely have more credibility in my book.

  3. Darius at MMS always post the best deal. As a matter of fact, earlier this week he referred to it as the Mother-in-law test (or something like that). Thumbs up.

That’s great news, because DeltaPoints really badly wanted to let his readers know of the best offer for US Airways, but being the honest man that he is, couldn’t in good faith let readers know about a card they’d have to lie for (except business CC’s that make him affiliate $$$, in which case, tell them you have a sole proprietorship).

Now that the new non-affiliate link doesn’t have any moral-dilemma language surrounding it, I expect him to be all over it and making his readers aware!

  5. TBB, I’m just guessing but it seems you gonna do both Calgary and Vancouver? Let the record show (!) that IMO you should stay in the Calgary area–slow down a little and enjoy yourself there. Why race across BC? Just to hit a few wineries and then see a big city? Not worth it (and I say this as a super-hyper traveller, who normally cannot stay put in a place very long.)

Ask yourself why you want to do this drive? If YVR is important to you then why not just fly the short hop from Calgary?

    1. I am still debating about it. Wife may have a job by then and taking too many vacation days so early may not be feasible. Besides, I like complicated itineraries to keep me from getting bored. I definitely see your point and I may end up doing exactly that. #developing

    2. Complicated is fine…if it has a purpose. I think you can do more homework on Calgary, Banff, Jasper , and Edmonton so that you are not bored. Okay, I stop now.

  6. Anyone here surprised by which bloggers are letting their readers know about the 35K offer and which bloggers aren’t?

    Neither am I
