This is part Three of the Asia Summer Trip Report where I fly to Hong Kong from Tokyo on Cathay Pacific Business Class, hang out with son around town and at the Intercontinental before we fly to Kuala Lumpur.

Boarding for Cathay Pacific CX521 was smooth. As usual. I was assigned Seat 14a in Business Class. For some reason, I really enjoy these intra-Asia flights…If you gave me a choice between JAL and Cathay Pacific Business Class…I would choose Cathay. Every time. Remember, we are all different.

I like my seat, very comfortable. It really helped that no other passenger around me coughed like that other guy on my JAL flight.20160622_165312

Great leg room you guys. 20160622_165322Okay, my trip reports are exhausting. This is what was served. I had everything that did not have shrimp! Again.

20160622_183412

I watched Zoolander 2. Definitely not as good as the original but still had some good laughs. Or maybe I had a little more wine than I thought which made the jokes funnier. I don’t know. Who cares! I also watched the documentary about Edward Snowden, which is really good and I recommend it.

20160622_183633

Like I said, I kept ordering. I have no control when I fly up front, I want to make it worth it how much I paid for the ticket. Ok, that was a joke. Of course I don’t pay to fly up front, I use miles because this is what I do! 20160622_190349I remember the steak Cathay Pacific cooked for me flying First Class a few years earlier. Again, it did not disappoint! 20160622_192137

I am a pig. I felt bad about myself afterwards #notreally20160622_194754I really like the following pictures landing in Hong Kong International Airport.20160622_203230 20160622_203409 20160622_203514Hello HKG, we meet again! 20160622_212151I stopped at the Plaza Premium lounge (part of Priority Pass lounge membership FREE with my Platinum Amex card ) to take a shower and change.20160622_221147 20160623_080522 20160623_080553 20160623_080858My pictures get a little out of order at this point, not sure what happened. But here is what went down. The plan was to go stay with son at his dorm room at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where he was studying for the summer. I take a taxi to the campus, we meet and then the security guard won’t let me in to the dorm building, WTF! Anyway, she would not budge. At all. So, the choice was to stay up all night (it was already past midnight at this point) or take a taxi back to the airport and go hang out at the same lounge above, thank God it was located outside security and open 24 hours, yes. Well, that’s what I did! I got me a few chairs together and slept like a baby.

In the morning, I took a taxi to the Intercontinental Hong Kong to burn my free IHG Rewards Chase Visa anniversary night.

For some reason, this reminds me of science fiction movies…20160623_094201Ok, lets talk about my second stay in the Intercontinental Hong Kong. I stayed here back in December 2014. For my first stay, I really worked my mega travel blogger status angle and had arranged me a nice room with this amazing view, free drinks and even a tour of the Presidential Suite with the hotel manager. Well, this time I didn’t do much in advance and was charged a supplement for the room with the view. I believe it came out to something like $75. Worth it? You tell me!20160623_103538 20160623_135645So, they let me check early and just enjoyed the hotel until son finally made it in the afternoon. Here is the view from the pool which I did use this time.

20160623_141816 20160623_152043 20160623_171730We went out with son who showed me around some spots he and classmates hanged out. I love the vibe of this city. I would come here before Tokyo every single time!20160623_195958We went out for dumplings at Din Tai Fung. Famous joint, yummy!20160623_203158 20160623_203518 20160623_205455

Walked around a lot, we both love local market scenes. Because we are men of the people. Lol.20160623_213228 20160623_213342

Son loves street food. And eats some very adventurous stuff. Like this stinky tofu thingie. First, I can’t stand tofu. You make it stinky and there is no way in hell I am going to eat that!20160623_215030I think son loved that picture so much…he had it in his Facebook profile.

20160623_221811

Late at night I treated him to the ridiculous expensive burgers at the hotel. Mine was good again. But his was just awful, he went with some different kind of burger, I forgot which. Anyways, very disappointing for the price I ended up paying. I think that was the last time I burn my free Visa night here, time to move on.20160623_231048 20160624_055611 20160624_065943 20160624_075737Yes I used the hotel gym the next morning to atone for my sins lol.

20160624_085913 20160624_090206 20160624_110249

I am going to miss waking up and making coffee and just gazing out at the harbor…Just love it!

20160624_110301 20160624_110324

We headed out to the airport and had lunch while waiting for our Air Asia flight to Kuala Lumpur. We made a great choice, both of these dishes were delicious!20160624_124021

The gate to board Air Asia AK135. We paid in advance for these flights. Less than $100 each.

20160624_125416

The bird to take us to Malaysia to see mommy and daughter!20160624_131024Just before landing in Kuala Lumpur, we were sprayed on. Something about health regulations. That was kind of weird.20160624_165405And we will continue with our family time in Malaysia next!

  1. The reason I continue with the trip report was that I did not have enough material to make it a worthy Buzz post. It’s not me, its’ the blogs! If this continues…I may finish this trip report and start on the Iran one lol.

I am so glad the laptop ban is not going to happen!

I think the Cavs and Warriors may go to the Finals unbeaten!

    1. I’m so glad I didn’t waste 5 posts pondering about a possible laptop ban, unlike …..

      1. Some bloggers should get into the oil drilling business because they really know how to run something into the ground.

  2. TBBDude, next time please take photos of the room BEFORE you use the bed and the towels. Speaking of the latter, how many towels did you use?? One for each boady part? That pile is huge!

      1. You guys crack me up. This blog may not get many $ clicks but the entertainment is..;priceless πŸ™‚

  3. Looks like a fun time thanks for the report! Keep ’em coming!

Though after a certain blogger’s recent Residence trip, I think yours would have been better with some drunken Instagram videos, incessant babbling like a 15-year-old, and 1,654 pictures of champagne.

    1. I don’t do Instagram, I babble like a 29 year old and may have a few pics of red wine as I don’t drink much other than that, maybe a cocktail or two. Champagne me? Never. I guess that means Bravo channel will never approach me for a show #sosad πŸ™‚

      1. I would have been busy running around in golden speedos, enjoying campaign showers and joining the mile high club.
Why isn’t there a strip pole in the residence?

  4. I find it quite interesting you slept at the airport lounge instead of booking a hotel near the airport. You’d adapt very nicely to any austerity situation.

    1. I tried but it was way too late. I called the same Hyatt TST I stayed in last time and tried to book it but I think it was something like “we don’t do any reservations after midnight” or something to that effect.

That 24 hour lounge worked out great actually.

      1. My first time in Hong Kong was just a 13 hour overnight layover. When I got kicked out of the wing around 3AM, I spent a couple hours in that lounge until the wing reopened. There were plenty of people sleeping in chairs.

  5. Someone needs to tell Ben from OMAT his personality makes TPG TV look good. And TPG TV is the worst.

  6. Great report. I think for your next HKG trip you should burn your IHG free night at the Hotel Indigo. On the island side, a fantastic hotel in an authentic neighborhood.
