ON MY MIND

I entered KLM’s contest to win a flight in space! If you enter through my link I increase my chances to win. If you are tired of me you link pushing blogger, get all your readers to sign up in this contest to send me to space so you can get rid of me:-) I find KLM’s online team doing fantastic things, such as this contest and the incredible online magazine they have! This is my second lame attempt to benefit in some way from my blog, the first one was a referral link to ebates. I could provide it here but I am too lazy to do copy and paste now:-)

MILES/POINTS

We have another fit of rage against Delta…until the next one! The Gate has a fantastic article “Why SaveSkyMiles and Other Campaigns Most Likely Would NOT Be Successful This Time Around“. I agree completely, the landscape has changed. Airlines have the upper hand. I have become a free agent, you should consider it too. Delta blows…and I used to be one of the apologists! Delta Points wrote on the changes: ‘So, good or bad?” Say whaaaaat?

The Extra Pack of Peanuts had yet another post on credit cards. Comment by a reader was: “Do you ever write about anything other than credit cards?” Lol! As you read you realize that he he did not know about the Club Carlson amazing benefit for an extra night for every two night award stay! Too busy nicely laying down all the affiliate links perhaps? Oops, I did it again….I was trying to do a post without mentioning credit card affiliate links #failagain

It looks like we will finally have a “Points & Miles Blogs” Forum on Flyertalk!

TRAVEL

3 things you should do on Facebook before any trip. From Matador Network. This is good sensible advice

Speed through the airport like a celebrity. Story at Associated Press. Interesting coverage of what the airlines can provide if you have the money to blow. (HT to Upgrd’s Matthew Live and Let’s Fly blog)

A huge infographic guide for the complicated world of airline fees. Wow, they are going up up up! (HT to the Well Traveled Mile)

Top 10 Sin Cities. From Successful Meetings. (HT to The Travel Insider)

Most inappropriate flight movies. From Matador Network. Reproducing the list below:

  • Alive – If your plane does crash, you have to wonder which of your fellow passengers you’re going to want to eat.
  • Airplane! – Airplane! is one of the best movies ever made, and it’d probably be fine to show on an airplane if it weren’t for the scene where passengers watch planes crashing while their own plane descends uncontrollably.
  • Con Air – The plane full of convicts crashes on the Las Vegas Strip, but most audiences will be creeped out by Steve Buscemi’s serial killer who escapes to start a new life at the end of the film.
  • United 93 – Having to relive a national tragedy, while seated in the setting, is 3x the scary.
  • Snakes on a Plane – What’s scarier than both snakes and planes? Oh I actually saw this movie on a flight in Mexico (on my laptop) where the most famous line is explained as: “¡Estoy cansado sobre esos pinches serpientes abordo este maldito avion!”
  • Flight – The movie starts with an epic crash scene that will make people wish they hadn’t boarded this flight. The rest of the movie is pretty boring though.
  • Airport 77 – There is a plane crash, but people would revolt because 1970s movies get pretty dull.
  • Passenger 57 – I remember that this movie had a porn parody called Passenger 69. That’d also probably piss people off aboard a flight.
  • Air Force One – Terrorists hijack the president’s plane without realizing that he’s a badass. Passengers would probably approve, but will be in turmoil for most of the flight.
  • Flightplan – A kidnapping aboard your plane, while you’re on the plane! Whoa, except it’s worse because she is in first class, and you’re sandwiched between linebackers.
  • Red Eye – The person sitting next to you might also be a terrorist.
  • Broken Arrow – Most captive audiences are not traveling aboard stealth bombers, but they’d probably be unhappy by the explosions and Christian Slater’s acting.
  • Crash Landing – This would be bad because the title is “Crash Landing” and also most passengers don’t understand Mandarin.
  • Turbulence – Ray Liotta tries to fly a plane through skyscrapers!
  • Skyjacked – Some people will love the portmanteau, others will love the classic actors, others will close their eyes in terror.
  • Flight of the Living Dead – The movie is entirely based on a pun. Americans hate puns.
  • ODDZ & ENDZ

    Nada.

    1. No link to my post about it and what I said? Really? I held Delta to task on this one. While 100% pro Delta, I have a post up this week even you may like!

    2. Just a thank you George! I went to the Online Travel review site you linked to and wow! Full of helpful info without affiliate links all over the place. The kind of travel site that seems to have vanished. Good job Jared!!! BTW Delta apologists make me, well , ill…..

    3. You could go for weeks showing only photos of the Chateaux (~= castles) of the Loire Valley, there’s so many amazing ones! Great food and wine too, it’s a brilliant region to visit 🙂

      1. If you get a fast train and a good connection, you can be at Chenonceau in 90 minutes from Paris, the station is right outside the entrance to the castle. If you’ve longer, I’d suggest TGV to Tours (1 hour), see a bit of the city, then hire a car and drive round to several of the castles in the area. Google for images of “Angers Castle” “Chambord Castle” “Blois Castle” “Chinon Castle” (and a few others), then burns some of those miles on a flight out to France!

    4. I clicked on your KLM space link. Very cool. Geez, the taxes you’d have to pay if you won…a good 5 figures.

      1. I do not want to think about the taxes at all! If I have to pay them you can rest assured my blog will instantly turn into an affiliate link pimping mega machine to help me pay Uncle Sam:-)
