Amex SPG 30k card, Hotels Along a Route, Earth View, Europe off the Beaten Path, Istanbul With Kids, Boomers’ 401k Plans

We make fun of credit card salespeople selling the Amex SPG 30k card, learn how to find hotels along a route, marvel at Earth View, travel to Europe off the beaten path and to Istanbul with kids and more.

Looks like the Amex SPG cards are back with a 30,000 signing bonus. Read the particular details in this post by Doctor of Credit and you know what to do in case you can get one #wink. At the very least consider helping a blogger who does not pump your eyeballs out in almost every post! Yeah, this is a great deal! I tried to cancel my personal card but Amex retained me with 7k points, I said sure. A quick look around the blogosphere and you realize how awful of a place it has become, everyone pumping their readers to oblivion with the same phucking template sounding like a douchebag appearing to be overly excited about something that has been “templated”. Uggh!

Simple trick to find hotels along a route by Points With a Crew. Interesting find. You never stop learning.

Why retailers must have loyalty programs. Because if they didn’t what the hell are we going to collect? Can you imagine a world without loyalty rewards? #boring  “47% of retailers do not currently offer loyalty programs to their customers.”

Many boomers’ 401(ks) are way out of balance. At Marketwatch. I remember getting contacted to be interviewed for this story but did not get the email in time because I was busy reading blogs #facepalm.

I am tired of the bullshit. Happens every time the banks unleash their sales force out to the wild…Eeeeek!

Points with a Crew was sitting pretty way up to the left and then BANG, all the pumpers go the green light from Amex to PUMP SPG UP!

  1. Thanks for the link. And no joke, that screenshot was about 90 seconds after I posted. I was just whining, but it’s frustrating to have taken the time to have written up a post about actual travel, only to be knocked off the “main” spot by 4 posts about the EXACT SAME THING!

It is a good card, and it is worth a blog post, and I don’t mind people posting about it (I will probably post about it later in the week). Some folks disclose things better than others.

      1. Sorry but all these travel bloggers are ass faces. Everyone. Willing to whore out the hobby in the name of making a tiny bit of money (sure there are a few that have reached the big time) but most of these stiffs are scuffing along the bottom. Shame that they are still in business.

  2. SPG 30k sign up comes around every single August, ever since I can remember, so at least 7 years in the row. Big F*ing Deal. You used to need to spend $15,000 to get it, then it was $10,000, now it is $5,000 in spending; but that deal is always the same. One year when you referred you got double points, so 10,000 to refer someone, now you get 5,000 points. Good card to have, great card to churn (business), but the onslaught of posts is just unbearable.

I love the CNN caption/quote, nice one!

    Cheers,

A quote from from July 28th post:
“But this does not negate the fact that each one of these PR stunts hurts the hobby, excuse me, The Hobby.”

    And now my question:
If affiliate links did not exist, do you think the state of the “Hobby” would be what it is currently?

By currently I mean, massive devaluations left and right likely due to outstanding mileage balances, deals being blown left and right so X blog increases readers/conversions, PR stunts bringing even more attention to this Hobby, etc…

    1. >>>>>>>>>>If affiliate links did not exist, do you think the state of the “Hobby” would be what it is currently?

      Absolutely not.

I also think the world would be a much happier place if there was no world hunger.

          1. Ok so if we wanted to go with that analogy which is dumb because these are not even close in scale, but I digress…

So if you had a blog that made fun of rich guys who dangled food in front of starving people 24 hours a day and at the same time you also dangled food in front of starving people but only 3 times a week are you not a hypocrite?

I guess my larger point is that we all agree affiliate links was Pandora’s Box in this hobby. And yes there is probably no putting it back in the box, but that does not excuse the hypocrisy of engaging in conduct you think harms the hobby that you hold so dear.

I’ll get off my soap box now.

  4. >>>>>>>”TBB has brought in 58 cents this week. So please STFU if you are about to call me a pumper, geesh! ”

Oh you are a “pumper” An every blog post and in numerous tweets: “Pumper”. Just a lousy one.

Imagine the Titans “take” this week

    58 cents? Why bother?
