Why are more American Teenagers Suffering from Severe Anxiety

What a great article! If you have teenagers or know someone who does and have some issues with them (who doesn’t!) this is a very educational read. I sent it to  a good friend who has been experiencing these issues for a very long time, I hope it helps them. About a month ago my daughter freaked out. Like a panic attack…which led to a very open and heartfelt discussion. That was the night I really realized my daughter is just not a little girl anymore and it is time to stop treating her like one! Social media is making this problem bigger, no doubt! Please forward to someone who may need this!

Inside X, Google’s Moonshot Factory

If you are fascinated about technology and where it is taking us, you will enjoy this one! They are doing some wildly creative stuff in this company. It must be fun to work there as it is probably the only company where regular investigation into the absurd is encouraged, and even required. The guy running it is Astro Teller, yeah what a name!

Novi Beograd: The Modernist Architecture of a Yugoslav Utopia

Another fantastic post over at The Bohemian Blog. Maybe it is because I always liked these brutalist type buildings from the former Soviet bloc. Something about their ugliness lol. Always excellent writing and photography here. Go out of your way to support blogs like this. If not, humanity is left with greedy phucking morons masquerading as experts pumping their readers every chance they get!

The Climate Explorer

This is very cool. And downright scary of what the future holds, especially for some areas.

Explore maps and graphs of historical and projected climate trends for any county in the contiguous United States. View data by topics to see how climate change will impact things you care about.

Enter your location and check out some data. You were warned here at TBB!

Interview with Richard Thaler

In case you have not heard, this economist won the Economics Nobel Prize. He is the second one studying the fascinating (to me at least) world of behavioral economics and winning a Nobel prize.  I think he should study the behavior of travel hackers at some point, he will totally freak out lol. He is actually a really nice, down to earth and cool dude to hang with. You will learn a lot in this if you click the shocking video 🙂

And I leave you with this…

  3. From a revenue standpoint, has Google been successful at anything but selling ads since they cornered the search engine market more than a decade ago? ~90% of Google’s revenue comes from advertising.

    1. Exactly! Everything Google does is lent a halo by its advertising domination. I read an article a while back about their then-new CFO trying to quash some of their expensive projects.

Maps is pretty awesome though, gotta give them credit for that.

  4. A few years ago our teenage daughter (well she’s 20 now) struggled with anxiety and despite us getting her to therapy and trying to do the right things, was influenced by “friends” on the internet to deal with it in some very unhealthy ways that only resulted in making things worse. Unfortunately she continues on a downward spiral and it’s been a year since we’ve heard from her aside from occasional texts. Parents, don’t let your guard down when it comes to the internet!

I have my own anxiety problems too that started in my teens, so I understand. I think it’s worse today due to the pressures from social media.

A behavioral economics study of travel hackers would be pretty interesting indeed!

    1. sorry to hear that about your relationship with your daughter. I hope you reconnect soon.

    2. I hope things get better. Try not to give up hope. I know I was tempted to give up. Who knows how it will turn out but …

  5. Wow looked up my area. Temps from 1950 to today are barely changed in their graph. But the next 60-80yrs its straight up with considerably higher temps. Looks like a chart of the Qs or Dow since Trump came into office.

  6. Oh gawd. A generation of friggin snowflakes being raised. Get a grip. Stop coddling your kids. Not everyone deserves a trophy. Teach that lesson while they’re young and they won’t have “anxiety” attacks when they get old enough to realize the world doesn’t owe them anything.
