My son is moving to Madrid next month to do a semester of study abroad in the UP Comillas. He has arranged housing already. Just like we did for his stay in San Francisco, I am taking the liberty to ask for your wisdom for any tips you may have. Transportation, restaurants, must see and do things, weekend trip excursions, dating/party/social scene tips, ANYTHING you may think it will help him out.
We enjoyed a great vacation there some years ago. We all fondly remember it. I may send my wife and daughter to visit him over Spring Break (early April, tax time, boo!).

Despite living in Spain for 50 weeks, I spent all of about 10 days in Madrid, so I can’t be of much help there.
However if I was revisiting places I would go to:
Bilbao and the beach community along Gexto
San Sebastian
Seville
Barcelona
Cadiz
Gibraltar (ask for the passport stamp still my all time favorite stamp)

My only experience comes from our high school class trip to Spain & France way back in 1992 (my first trip out of the country!). I keep intending to go back to Spain one day. Toledo an Segovia were my favorite parts but Madrid was fun too. TBB Son will have fun – oh and hopefully learn too!

Son you are invited to join me for the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona. I will be going for my 3rd time, do not worry Buzz, I will watch over him. I only got hurt once there. As you may know, the San Fermin takes place each year on the exact same dates – July 6 -14.

Or just take a special lady to a bullfight at Las Ventas. Guaranteed to get lucky that night. Much more romantic than the smaller arenas where you can hear the butcher performing magic with a chain-saw.
