Adam K: Figured youโ€™d enjoy thisโ€ฆ โ€œStay Chase-y my friendsโ€ just changed to โ€œStay Chase-y, yoโ€: http://www.theonion.com/articles/chase-executives-fondly-recall-financial-companys,36863/?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=SocialMarketing&utm_campaign=LinkPreview:1:Defaultย ย  [Funniest Onion piece ever? TBB: Bet ya they were bought with the TBB Amazon link!

Steve: One Amex at a Time is back with something sorely neededโ€ฆ. a centurion lounge review

that was a nice 2 month break we had during the non-affiliate days when nobody bothered talking about the centurion lounges

Of course, Platinum link displayed prominently at beginning of the post. AMEX MB card nowhere to be found. And enough pictures to make MMS blush โ€“ because when Amex is paying as much as they do for those Platinum clicks, youโ€™ll put in a step by step 40 picture instruction on how to find the lounge. โ€œFollow the signsโ€ apparently is not sufficient

TBB: Not a day goes by without me having this thought: โ€œDid I close the garage door?โ€

RIP Amazon Payments

Scott: Shit has gotten way out of hand the last couple of years. Some great bloggers have sold their souls, miles have been so easy to get weโ€™ve seen massive devaluations so companies can balance the liability on their books, and award availability is tightening up. I almost welcome things getting harder. There are too many hogs at the trough.

Adam K: Luckyโ€™s latest post may have set a record: 36 affiliate links, all under the guise of answering a reader question. The best part? The Google-search-grabbing headline: โ€œCollecting Miles As A Beginnerโ€. I think even my eyes started bleeding (maybe heโ€™ll recommend a credit card for that too?)

Selected comments from TBB Troll Rick/ingy/FTG posing as “Fan of Mommy Points” this trolling day: Your blog is about using the facade of telling jokes and laughing while truly it is about slamming others. even your Jonestownlike followers can see that. quit hiding behind that line of BS. You are jealous and angry and too late to the party to cash in.

and

Your massive inferiority complex and lack of self esteem shows on a daily basis here. Hell, you wonโ€™t even post your name??? And it is common knowledge that those that resort to tearing down others, do it to feel better about themselves.
Does it make you feel better to criticize others George? It sure seems like that is the thrust of your efforts.

icicle: What George does is SNARK. I feel as if people do not understand the different between snark and verbal abuse. When George feels like he goes over the line, he does apologize. Iโ€™ve read it.

TBB: TBB is ALL about SNARK. TBB reviews blogs and picks the best and the worst. And packages the worst in anโ€ฆentertaining manner. They are businesses. TBB is like the Yelp and SNL of miles/points blogs (just made that upโ€ฆI like it!). I have nothing personal against anyone (except two). Donโ€™t take anything personally and ignore me. Or you can improve (if you can) and try to climb out of the Ignore Blog listโ€ฆ.yeah right, like that would happen. Until then they keep pumping credit cards every day which bothers the hell out of me as this hobby was NOT like that. Now we have hundreds of blogs selling bank products and going on national TV and not calling it like it isโ€ฆโ€My blog is about selling credit cardsโ€ and all this is NOT freeโ€ฆ

Jules Vern: Heโ€™s raised awareness of practices within this hobby of ours, and I give him a whole lot of slack because of it.ย  [Yeah but would Jules give TBB his Amazon links? lol]

harvson3: In reading these blogs, George, youโ€™re just reading ads. Danโ€™s comment warrants re-posting: theyโ€™re just well-paid amateurs writing advertising for banks. And they have no (financial) incentive to change.

Michelle S: Watched the MommyPoints thing on ABC and it didnโ€™t sit too well with me either. Aside from there being a huge conflict of interest duping newbies into signing up for credit cards a lot of the stuff she claimed is FREE really isnโ€™t. For example:

The United Club: NOT FREE. Yes, there are targeted offers with the United Club card that gets you in for the FIRST YEAR, after that itโ€™s $495. The United Mileage Plus Explorer card only comes with 2 passes. They were traveling as a family of 3. There are other free ways into the United Club (shhh!), but they have nothing to do with credit cards.

FREE Upgrades and Status on United: Where do I even start? Again, not FREE! Not even close to free. You earn status by flying on REVENUE tickets (i.e. you pay for them). I also believe they were flying on paid tickets that day.

The hotel she stayed at was a prize from winning a some sort of travel contest? WTF? What does that have to do with travel hacking or rewards credit cards? But ok, that might have been the only thing that was FREE.

As a MSer I about died when she took the camera crew to the gift card rack at the grocery store, but luckily she didnโ€™t reveal anything. Thereโ€™s no way youโ€™re going to fly your whole family to Paris in First Class by buying Outback and Sephora gift cards. But what if people believe that?

The entire presentation was very disingenuous I felt. She sells credit cards for a living, credit cards with one-time sign-up bonuses that might get you a domestic saver ticketโ€ฆif youโ€™re lucky. Without churning and/or manufacturing thereโ€™s simply no way to get there from here. In the meantime sheโ€™s earning a HUGE commission and freebies from the credit card company which I guarantee you helps fund much, if not all of her travel. Iโ€™ll give Nightline credit for it being a relatively interesting human interest piece (or at least for me as a fellow โ€œmommyโ€ frequent traveler) in which she comes across as a very likeable person, but for those of us who know better, itโ€™s just so, so dishonest.

Dia: It was the word โ€œfreeโ€ over and over that got to me. Besides the examples you mentioned, the piece just raised the expectations so high and placed the amount of work required so low as to be laughable. Heck of a marketing coup, though. Good for her.

TJ: I liked the valuation of 3 United Club mini muffins at $15.

TBB:Maldives trip report is coming I hearโ€ฆBecause, you know, this is what brings families togetherโ€ฆfor FREE :-)ย  Now let me go and do someโ€ฆโ€stackingโ€ lol.

  1. I made it in!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

But unexpectedly since I wasn’t trying to make it “in”. I like it here. I feel as if it is a safe place. Maybe that’s because I’m originally from Detroit, and can tell the difference between mean-spiritness and snark???

I’m happy to have found this site- I’ve followed a few links and “online met” some really cool people. I bet some of you didn’t know I followed your links. LOL Seriously, though, I’ve oft read some of the blogs linked here in people’s nametags. It is a great way to relax after a horrible, awful day at work. So thank you fellow TBB readers! P.S. I don’t have a blog so…can’t link for y’all to do the same. *shrugs*

I love Dia. Her travel approach seems similar to mine. Oh Michelle S, It WOULD be awesome to travle to Paris using only Outback gift cards. #Dreamingimpossiblethings!

    1. Apparently, I need to start with a dictionary before earning points!. Travel is not spelled “travle”.

I’ll leave it up for others to claim ‘third’. Or ‘second’. I’m just happy to be here at all! ๐Ÿ˜›

  2. FINALLY

    Spencer F. – First
    Helixcardinal – Second

After so many times seeing the reverse happening, it was due to happen!

TBB and icicle are happy you are all here by the way ๐Ÿ™‚

University of Michigan lost at home again…so these people coming into Panera this morning are not smiling as usual.

  3. Cool and the gang speaking as usual at the next FTU. I have no interest in any of the five speakers. Will this be another point value masturbation exercise by FM? It would be great if the WestCoastDO would have let readers know when ticket were supposed to be released.

    1. I “elaborate” on the FTU phenomenon in tomorrow’s Buzz. I am really angry on the bloggers in my Like list presenting with the mega credit card marketers together.

Reader called it a fan boy circle jerk!

  4. I still think Dan is right. I skip the Blogs You (don’t really) Ignore because I don’t need to be sold a lifestyle by the uninteresting.

I scratched my head when Ric Garrido wrote in the post that you previously highlighted:

Mommy Points is one of my favorite blogs I read regularly.

Really? Why? There’s nothing I could learn from Summer that I couldn’t learn from any of the other dodo birds, and I have no interest in slogging through the same credit card ads. There’s no there there.

The chumminess in the in-club is eye-rolling. I’ll have more thoughts on the matter when I’m less busy.

    1. I was surprised he said that too!

I express my thoughts here all the time and it makes me feel a lot better!
