Travel Blog Reviews – November 9, 2012

Garyat View from the Wing is just an amazingly prolific blogger. He just keeps cranking mostly relevant & sometimes very original posts. I am still in awe of how many things he does. Always worth a daily visit. Today’s blogs were kind of weak with limited appeal, unless you are a UA 1K whose upgrades now last through the end of the next elite membership year (and NOT one year from date of issue). I just don’t bother with buying miles, especially Virgin miles. Why do that when you can ODInkBB it? J I must say that Global Entry is wonderful…if you travel alone. Not so good when you fly with family as you must use the regular passport control lines!

Ben at OneMileataTime is at it again, flying first class! I have noticed the frequency and quality of posts has come down since he moved to Seattle. He did not take my advice to move in with his parents and save himself a whole lot of dough as he is almost NEVER at home anyway! I must tell you I can NEVER equate a German flight attendant to the pure sweetness coming from a Singapore Airlines flight attendant. Love Janesis and never even met her. How was the dinner with her anyway? Not much added today again. And dude, please hold the pics with the Kleenexes, will ya?

Excited to be going to FTU in Los Angeles later this month. Please make sure you say hello to me! Any vendors to be showering us with swag or elite offers?? I know some are lined up for the FTU in the East coast next year.

Loyalty Traveler today has a 10% off hotel coupon. I don’t know about you but 10% does nothing for me. Then you add the fact it is from hotels.com and it REALLY does nothing for me! I prefer booking on the hotel websites to make sure I have a shot for that elusive Presidential suite upgrade! It also has a 25k spg points contest on Johny Jet’s blog (by the way, his pics from his honeymoon are fantastic!).

Deals we like has become the go to site for AMEX/Facebook sync promotions. So many of these my head spins! I do not bother with the US Air & Citibank promos (watch for 1099s!!!).

Online Travel Review made a courageous decision on November 8 to stop badgering us with credit card related posts and the OD/Ink/BB thing. Thank you! And thanks for posting the unaffiliated credit card links for the ChaseInk cards with the reduced minimum spend of $5k, much appreciated.

Dansdeals broke the news that the fantastic ChaseExclusives program is ending. He has another follow up today in his home page. It may be too late to get into this by now. Chase Exclusives (requires a checking account and a Chase Freedom card) gives 10 pts per each transaction and 10% bonus per transaction. So…for small expenses, this card is just AUTOMATIC! I must say that the ads all over the pages are a bit much! And please Dan, no more credit repair ads advertising, you must draw the line somewhere dude!

Brace for a mega fest of cc links when the affiliate links are updated for the Chase Ink cards to reflect the $5k min spend. Why don’t you see this being promoted? Is it because that the aff links are not live yet? It is amazing how silent bloggers get in these cases and then they always trip over themselves to tout their own cc links when they can get paid!!

Must be a slow day in blogosphere. Everyone appears to be writing about how Global Entry can be used in Australia. Come on ThePointsGuy. Slow day in Koreahuh? I will save the Cancun/Riviera Maya Destination of the week post for future reference in my Evernote program. Great piece of software to save things for reference by the way. Brian is the undisputed leader in this space. Amazing web SEO and PR machine too!

FrugalTravelGuy writes about Airline Alliances. Zzzzz

At least he gives out the non aff links for the Ink cards, that is something. I guess not worthy enough to send them in an email blast like all the other times!

MillionMileSecrets today’s post is interesting. He has a new web host so you know he is doing well financially. Also very surprising he mentions AND promotes the non affiliate cc links. Maybe my rants have been getting to him? As you all know, I also rant about his wife’s pics. I have nothing against both, they are very nice people. I just find it bizarre that one person can be photographed so many times. Nobody else does it, some moderation will be very welcome here! And then if that pic is combined with a pic of a Chase cc or Bluebird is when I usually lose it and reach for my blood pressure pills (kidding, get used to it).

Another reason I started my blog is to have another excuse for the Ink Plus card because you just can not get enough Vanilla these days;-)

MommyPoints posted about how to liquidate some miles from the US Air grand slam. Bad luck for her as she was becoming THE grand slam lady and was going to speak about it in the Chicago Seminars and then US Air decided not to do it this year! It’s ok Mommy,we still love you! Wyndham and La Quinta hotels, really? I don’t do Wyndham and I don’t do Cartera or Jetsetter either! I stayed once in a La Quinta hotel many years ago on a Priceline stay. I still remember gunshots near by. Never went back!

I am starting to think now that bloggers may be depressed today and keep checking to see if the new aff cc links for the Ink cards have been updated. I bet you most have the posts ready to go with just one click!!

Another fantastic post by FrequentMiler. Aggregates all the cc category bonuses. If others did it, they would be adding EVERY cc link in the body of the post! See you tomorrow at the Corner Brewery!

Milevalue has a very good post on the surcharges (or no) using Skymiles partners. He recently added cc aff links and looks like he added one employee already, wow!

I only read DeltaPoints because I am based in DTW and fly Delta (I am Platinum but going to Silver…I have had enough, I hate them *(^&Ys) (management only, employees are great!).  Mileage run, been there done that. Always expect to be served aff cc links in his posts, always! More Southwest drink vouchers contests please:-)

Boarding Area is down so often is totally ridiculous, get a new host for crying out loud!

Great post by Hack my trip about the importance of Networking in this hobby. To be mentioned in the same sentence as the one and only Mr. Pickles is an honor:-)

Well, that sure took a lot longer than I thought. I think I entered the time suck twilight zone!!
