Travel Blog Reviews – November 10, 2012

This blog adventure is an experiment as of now. Call it a blog in beta. I know I need to move away from blogspot but have no time learning new tricks and sure don’t want to spend any money on it! If you want me to review your blog/site shoot me an email at @travelbloggerbuzz@gmail com or follow me on Twitter at @FlyerTalkerinA2
Let me just say that I have gained (as expected) a new found appreciation for bloggers who have to come up with blog updates frequently!

So here we go, an uncensored in your face raw review of stuff!

PointsEnvy “Week in Review”. Must read/laugh post by these guys.  I like it how they state that nobody will find Vanilla reload cards in the same paragraph as MMS, lol.

Breaking News: Mr Pickles is back with his blog! I think he felt pressure by me starting a blog, huh? Mr Pickles is a legend in this crazy community. What he accomplished with the US Mint and the gazillions of coins he deposited in banks (using trucks and dollies, etc.) is simply…impossible to be matched. I am sure there is a place for him in the Miles Hall of Fame (whenever that is started, hmm, maybe we should start it!).  Anyways, when he talks (usually in cryptic language—hey, you want spoonfeeding, there is a blog for that, go there!) the community listens. This Miles per Minute (MPM) is an innovative concept. Since most of the community is so stuck up with so much credit card debt I am not sure many have the funds available to park in Bank Direct and FidelityJAnd we all so wished we can put mega business expenses on cards. 90,000 UA miles for manufacturing supplies per month, wowwwwwww!!

Notice no ads in the blog at all….Isn’t that so beautiful to watch? Good to have you back. Now let’s see who gives up this blogging gig first among us? 😉

PizzainMotion: This has nothing to do with miles/points. It is just a very loving post by a dad reading a story in his daughter’s class. Sure made me smile. Not much else there.

The MegaDO franchise keeps rolling. I had the privilege to attend Star MegaDO2 and it was such a great experience. (What made it the best is that all my expenses were covered by Lufthansa as I won the contest they had on Twitter the week before the event! Telling my wife about it went something like this: Me: “Honey, I am going to New York, Frankfurt, Houston, Phoenixand Seattlenext week” Honey: “Say whaatt?” Me: “I am going, you just need to deal with it” Honey: “Must have something to do with miles, right?”)  I really like this Mileopoly thing they are doing, sounds great. Sometimes in these hectic events there is just no way to get to meet everyone! I noticed prices getting higher but I am sure most of these bloggers can afford it; besides, the cost is a legitimate deductible business expense;-)

Tweet by @BoardingArea: “We are quite sorry for intermittent up-time this week. Move to new stable host is underway — but you are due an apology all around.” – Good move. About time!!!

Ben flies first class again! This time Thai Airways. I wll likely post direct link to his full post with pics if I like them. If I ever make it to Thailand I may not leaveJ Ben is in Bangkok now (always had a kick when I read BANGkok, lol what a name!!). I can not wait to see the obligatory pics of a glass of diet coke with lime and the hot towel…the hot towel always gets me!! The pace of blog updates has just fallen off a cliff ever since he moved to Seattle! And we could care less about a British Airways sale ex-London!

Scary scary tweet by @TravelbyPoints: “Well-stocked OD pulled all Vanilla Reloads today after corporate notice. Mgr thinks it is nationwide. Hope not.”  My guess is this is an isolated incident because some stupid greedy hog pigged out on Vanilla. I think this bonanza may have legs.  Eventually, we all know this bird 5x orgy just can not last. Dang it, I am getting an InkPlus card to match my InkBold card too!

View from the Wing: Accor Hotels 50% off Promo starting on Nov. 13, Expert Flyer now has an Android app, AA & its pilot may have reached an agreement. That’s it. Move on. No wait. Gary just posted a great write up about how Bluebird has obliterated the minimum spend requirements. Yes, it is fool’s gold. Lets all hope it lasts longer than we think….No, not hope. Pray!!

Loyalty Traveler has some info about an auction of hotels around the country. Appear good deals now but with over three days left the bids will get higher. I do not bother with auctions, it takes too much time to watch. Short write up about Priceline’s purchase of kayak.com. I did not know Kayak makes 80% of its revenue from flight referrals! Expedia owns tripadvisor, hotels.com, and hotwire. “The online travel market is consolidating into technology groups”.

From DansDeals credit card forums: Affiliate credit card links for the new $5k min spend InkBold cards will be updated on November 13. Brace everyone for the mega orgy of blog updates. Nothing gets bloggers so excited and so eager to update their blogs than new affiliate cc links, nothing!! Dan is the guy who has taken the credit cards to Mint/Mr Pickles levels! He has 42 active cards. He posted a link listing all of them in this forum, post #140

And yes, you can have more Chase cards, this dude has 13 of them!!! (8 personal and 5 business). I think it is time to get more “Bold”J

Amex retention offers are going downhill. I think Amex is concentrating on Bluebird right now, huge move to corner the market and then we will feel their wrath with increased fees! In the meantime, enjoy and please do NOT be a hog!!!!

ThePointsGuy: Nothing noteworthy. Brian is in Spain again staying at the Westin Palace which we stayed in a few years back. Of course we do not get his type of upgrades. I would like to know if he has noticed any noticeable differences in daily life as the European crisis has intensified lately. And thanks for that restaurant recommendation, the Arcade. The fish dishes were wonderful. I have been to two restaurants Brian has recommended and must admit his taste in food is impeccable! Muchas gracias senor! Your gagnam style pics in Korea were…unique;-)
I really like the “Destination of the Week” write ups as they have great info on chain hotels available. If you plan to visit a place, come here and do a search, you may just find what you want.

FrugalTravelGuy: What, ANOTHER person writing again for this site, who is this Ken Yee dude? A sad post targeting newbies and serving them yet another eight 8 cc links. Is there any other reason other than serving the link for the Hyatt card here, puulease?

Interesting comment left (and surprisingly permitted to be posted): This blog is ridiculous. All you do is link to better blogs. As much money as you’re pulling in, you’ve got to be one of the top 10 luckiest guys on the internet.”

MMS has nothing. He migrated his blog to a new host. Gave us all a break from more pics & spoon feeding posts. He warns us that the new spanky Chase cc links are coming on November 13. Everyone is becoming Jamie Dimon’s (Chase CEO) bitch pushing them credit cards!!!

Mommy Points has a post about a higher UA bonus for new Dining Rewards members who also have the UA card. So, nothing really there. She is in Europe for the MegaDO trip. Slim pickings lately. I wonder if she will be updating her blog with them spanky new Chase cc links on November 13thJ

Frequent Miler reports that he used Paypal as “direct deposit” into his BlueBird account which it worked and his ATM withdrawal from a MoneyPass ATM incurred no fees. Good to know. I still plan to not do any ATM withdrawals with my birdies!

DeltaPoints says “Delta is the best airline in the air”. My blood pressure goes up when he talks about “our airline” and other maddening things! And are you surprised he likes the Delta credit cards too?(hint: if you apply & get approved, he gets income and he sure appreciates it…oh wait, he does not even say that on his blog as others do). Yes, this blog has graduated down to my Google Reader list but I check it out still…always good material for meJ

Unroad Warrior has announced publicly that I was the winner of the National Car Rental contest! Got a Swiss Army tote bag and garment sleeve bag & $100 amex gift card (which wife will gladly spend as I am allergic to shopping). Thanks for the opportunity. I love random contests! On the other hand, contests that involve ANY type of skill I steer clear as I have no talents whatsoever! Maybe one day I will do a post about sweepstakes contests. I have won many over the years! Everyone tells me I should play the lottery. But I don’t as the odds there are so impossible!!!

The Deal Mommy has a link listing all Black Friday ads. I know lots of you are online shopping maniacs so this may be helpful.

One of the biggest and most enjoyable FlyertTalk threads is the one titled “Getting spending up without the Mint”. The laughter benefits have been amazing. Watch for frequent posts by Marathon Man (his handle fits him PERFECTLY) and AlohaDaveKennedy frequently chiming in about the Cardinals watching all over us. It is hilarious and you can learn quite a bit. No spoon feeding here! Oh oh, Marathon Man may become a blogger too! Who will be next? Another post stating how Vanilla cards were pulled from yet another OD…hmmmm.

New Girl in the Air recaps current hotel promotions

Delta has a new website format. Search engine still broken.

  1. Thank you Deal Mommy for commenting! I think you should patent my phrase I coined when me Gary L. were going back and forth about something (I forgot what it was actually). “It is not a deal until the Deal Mommy says so!”. Pretty catchy I think:-)

  2. Thank you Deal Mommy! I am focusing on coming up with content now, no time for tagline contest. Actually…no time for anything else anymore;-)
Remember, “It is not a Deal until the Deal Mommy says so”.
